YOGA AND IT'S BENEFITS
Sadly, stress seems to be our common underlying factor these days, but thankfully, it needn't be so
- yoga supplies a healthy alternative.
The integration of yoga into ones daily life brings a deep calmness and peace, the ability to observe and
participate in life without becoming unhealthily attached to all the self-destructive pains, stresses and strains
that we usually cling onto so tenaciously. Yoga is a means of balancing the body, mind and emotions.
We begin to understand that life just is - that it is outside of our control and we learn to let go, to simply
float on the river of life instead of standing midstream egoistically defying the irresistible flow and being
battered into submission for our efforts. We learn to accept what is and let go of the illusion of control and
simply enjoy the moment.
Physically, yoga promotes superb health, fitness and suppleness. Age is certainly no barrier to its practice -
both young and old alike benefit hugely.
Yoga aims at bringing the different bodily functions into perfect coordination so that they work for the good of
the whole body. The spine is made flexible - "You are as old as your spine" is a truism well remembered; muscles,
ligaments and tendons are stretched and made pliable again; circulation is increased and arteries made more
elastic, internal organs are massaged and brought into optimum working order; muscles are strengthened and a strong
core strength achieved; various ailments are eradicated through proper breathing; the body becomes well
proportioned, slim and flexible and with the release of dormant energy the body becomes full of vitality and
strength and the mind becomes light, creative, joyful and balanced.
The regular practice and integration of yoga into our lives brings vigorous health, calm serenity and deep joy -
are there any of us that can afford not to live like this?
