In 2001, a Scout leader's idea to combine community service with adventure resulted in the "Scouts for Kids 100km Bay to Bay Challenge", where members from all Scout groups within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro embarked on a 24 hr non-stop sponsored walk between Jeffrey's Bay and Algoa Bay.
