Cerebral Palsy Exhibition at EPSAC

Community Projects and Issueswww.MyPE.co.za: The Cerebral Palsy Association of the Eastern Cape (CPA) recently hosted an art competition within high schools in Nelson Mandela Bay where learners were challenged to use their creative talent in the arts to portray their understanding of disability and cerebral palsy in particular.

"The youth became a focus for this year as it is important that they become aware of the challenges faced by their disabled peers. High School learners are on the path of discovering who they are and what they want to become. We hope this competition will help them realize the role they can play in positively affecting the lives of individuals affected by cerebral palsy or disability", says Jennilee Peremore of the Cerebral Palsy Association (Eastern Cape).

Throughout the month of May the CPA project coordinators were welcomed into fifteen high schools to educate learners on the condition cerebral palsy and disability. To reinforce their message they posed an art competition: the High School Disability Challenge. From 3 - 6 August the winners of the visual art category of the High School Disability Challenge will be displayed in the EPSAC Upper Art Gallery.

Eastern Province Society of Arts and Crafts, known for its commitment to promoting the arts in the Eastern Cape have agreed to have the winners in the  visual artwork category displayed from 3-6 August 2010 in their gallery and will also be assisting with the adjudication process.

Founded in 1918, EPSAC is also embarking upon a project to help schools in previously disadvantaged areas to improve their facilities for art students. The Cerebral Palsy Association (Eastern Cape) appreciates the involvement of EPSAC art gallery for coming on board and showing their support, not only for the development of the arts amongst the youth in the Metro, but also for the disabled community within the Eastern Cape.

View this exciting exhibition at the EPSAC art gallery in support of cerebral palsy during National Cerebral Palsy Week (first week of August) and in celebration of the arts and the talent in Nelson Mandela Bay high schools.

For further information on this initiative or the Cerebral Palsy Association (Eastern Cape), contact the Cerebral Palsy Association.
