Father Christmas Municipality Delivers High Tech X-ray Machine to Motherwell Com

Local Government and Municipality in PEwww.MyPE.co.za: On Friday 23 July, Mr Tommy Olivier, District Manager of the Eastern Cape Department of Health in Nelson Mandela Bay, thanked the local Metropolitan Municipality for its visionary approach to Primary Healthcare by installing a high tech X-ray machine to the tune of R2 050 000 at the Motherwell Community Healthcare Centre.

The Motherwell CHC, a 24-hour facility that falls under the Eastern Cape Department of Health, will now assist patients from nearby municipal and provincial clinics who need X-rays which means that poor people don't need to spend already stressed financial resources on transport to get to hospitals in the district.

We've been attempting for years to get an X-ray machine at the Community Health Centre to cater for the growing population of Motherwell but could not implement this plan. Then the Father Christmas Municipality of Nelson Mandela Bay came along and bought a state-of-the-art machine, Mr Olivier added.  

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's Executive Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile said that those doubting Thomases who always questioned whether service delivery takes place, must come to the Motherwell Community Health Centre to witness that service delivery is indeed taking place.

"Gone are the days that poor people from Motherwell must travel long distances to facilities such as Dora Nginza Hospital and Livingstone Hospital to have X-rays taken.

"Through effective intergovernmental relations Motherwell residents will now get quality Primary Healthcare services right on their doorstep," Mayor Wayile added.

Besides the hospitals in Nelson Mandela Bay, only West End Clinic (Northern Areas of Port Elizabeth) and the Rosedale Clinic in Uitenhage are the two other Primary Healthcare facilities that have X-ray machines. This will go a long way towards easing the burden of long ques at state hospitals to access X-ray facilities.

Great article! Hooray for Mayor Wayile and all the Little People that made this happen. With the cost of travelling this unit is going to have a mayor effect of the people of Motherwell and it is bringing the Motherwell community one step closer to the best health care. Next might be a I.C.U for babies and children. Regars Pine
