Saturday's EP Rugby Programme

Sport News in PEwww.MyPE.co.za: The EP team for the EP vs WP rugby game on Saturday 13th March 2010 at the EPRU Stadium will consist of: Justin Peach (15), Norman Nelson (14), Siyanda Grey (13), De Wet Barry (12), Howard Noble (11), Regart van Eyk (10), Clayton Gawie (9), Jaques Potgieter (8), Yves Bashiya (7), Zolani Mofu (6), Hein Potgieter (5), Nolan Clark (4), Sangoni Mxoli (3), Robert Dyer (2) and Pumlani Nodikida (1).

Update (4:30 p.m.): Hein Potgieter (5) is not match fit due to a bout of flu, he will be replaced by Brendon Snyman (18). Replacing Brendon on the bench is Andries Smit.

Among the 8 players on the bench is new signing and tighthead prop, Sphephelo Mayaba who is a 23 year old from Pietermaritzburg and who had Anele Pemba crowing with delight to have signed. Apparently tighthead props are as scarce as hens teeth - go figure? Although I must admit that when I played loosehead in my youth I never felt any form of attraction to swop sides, far rather preferring to attempt dishing out punishment to my opposite tighthead.

Pote Human, back from Japan, is EP's additional forwards coach until the end of the year.

The gates open @ 08:30 and tickets are available from: Computicket, Shoprite, Checkers, Engen Humewood (next to Steers), Caltex La Roche Motors (La Roche Drive), Engen Linton Grange (next to McDonalds), Total Despatch (in the Main Road).

Match day schedule:
A Field
  • 09:30 - Suburban vs NMMU
  • 10:45 - Harlequins vs Spring Rose
  • 12:00 - Progress vs St Marks
  • 13:15 - Park vs Gardens
  • 15:00 - EP VS VODACOM WP
B Field
  • 09:15 - Crusader vs Kwaru
  • 10:30 - Despatch vs Windvogel United
  • 11:45 - SAPS vs African Bombers
The Braai Sites on the B Field will be open and available to anyone wanting to braai on Saturday 13th March at the EP vs WP game at the EPRU Stadium, on a first-come-first-served basis. There are a total of 30 braai areas that can be utilised. Spectators are encouraged to make use of this area - EP Rugby provide the space and you bring your grids, wood, meat etc.

Pote Human - EP forwards coach? There is no truth to this. He helped out at 1 coaching session while visiting his family here. He starts his new job as director of rugby at Garsfontein High School next week. If you want to see him in action, he'll be coaching the Sonop Primary School team in Despatch tonight!!

Maybe my choice of words was incorrect - as Anele Pemba put it; "Pote Human is assisting the forwards until the end of the year".

We even made weak jokes about all the rugby players and staff returning from Japan.

I see that my MATE who writes for Die Son knows our friend Anele Pamba a little bit better than I ............

He wrote in Sunday's Sonsport (in Afrikaans but translated here!): "According to EP Rugby Spin Doctor, Anele Pamba, Pote Human has already signed a contract. Pote himself knows nothing of this, though. Luckily, Couchie knows to take anything Pamba says with a pinch of salt."

Bugger and I, the cynic's cynic, believed Anele!

Another hard life lesson thanks to Anele.
