Port Elizabeth: A Red Letter Day for MyPE |
|
www.MyPE.co.za: For
those that missed the 112 Miss World contestants that graced Port
Elizabeth from Monday to Wednesday this week we have only one question;
"Where
were you?"
The Miss World
Contestants visited the Eastern Cape in order to hold the Miss World
Sport leg of the competition at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on
Wednesday 19 November. The winner of this leg of the competition, Miss
Japan, Eruzka Sasaki, 21 from Okinawa, Southern Japan was 'Fast
Tracked' into the Semi Finals of the Miss World competiton by virtue of
her win. Eruzka is a High Jump Athlete as well as Miss Japan.
On the day of the Miss World Sport competion myself and Nick Klichowicz made our weary way
down to the stadium at around 10:00 a.m. The Red Cherry Adventures team were
kind enough to set up a table right on the field for us, which made our
Live Blog so much easier - thanks guys appreciate the assistance.
Previous Live Blogs have been
pretty hectic and we were not too sure what to expect from this one so
were a little nervous. Boy, did we have a right to be so!
From the
time that we started the live blog we were swamped with readers and
comments, at one stage I thought that my 3G Card was going to self
ignite from all the info flowing back and forth.
Half way through the blog we created a poll asking readers which team
they thought would win - within literally 30 seconds we had in excess
of 100 people vote for their favourite team and the requests kept on
coming in for confirmation of which countries were in which team.
Watching the poll tickers literally change in front of my eyes was mind
blowing.
At that stage we had just under 900 people online clamouring for
attention and posting comments. All the comments are manually moderated
- we are a family site after all.
At the end of the blog we
tallied up the reader statistics as follows:
- Most readers online - 1 180,
- Reader comments sent - 721,
- Reader comments published - 405,
- Twitter comments published - 44,
- Images uploaded - 59,
- Videos uploaded - 1 and
- As of today the Replay button on the live blog has been
pushed 608 times.
Then this morning I
looked at the MyPE web site statistics for
yesterday:
- Unique visitors - 5 784,
- Site bandwith consumed - 5.15 gigabytes.
Un-freaking-believable!
We had readers from a plethora of countries across the globe - have a
look at the requests in the Miss
World Live Blog for an indication of the number of countries
represented by readers spanning the globe from East to West.
Most of the comments were ones of gratitude for showcasing the event
and at all times we referred people to the 2010 World Cup and to
business in the MyPE Directory - after all we are here to promote Port
Elizabeth and, by extension, business in Port Elizabeth through the MyPE
business directory which is extremely well represented in the
Search Engines - in the browser's face when they are looking to connect
with PE business.
Not to worry, Firefly,
we also promoted your labour of 'Port Elizabeth Love' - A Reason a Day to Visit Port Elizabeth.
MyPE will turn five next year - an aeon in internet terms and testament
to our relevance and longevity. See publically availably MyPE
Visitor Stats here (use the handy "Compare To" blocks to rate
MyPE against other web sites).
Lok out for the next two scheduled Live Blogs - South Africa vs England
Cricket and the Southern Shamaal Port Elizabeth to East London Surfski
Race brough to you by Zports.
